Kochi's Hodge criticises IPL schedule, pitches

Expressing the view that hectic traveling has adversely impacted some of the cricketers, Kochi Tuskers Kerala [ Images ] batsman Brad Hodge [ Images ] has criticized the standard of some of the pitches used during the ongoing Indian Premier League [ Images ].
Hodge criticised the IPL schedule, and said that it is very tiring and taking a toll on the body of some of the players.
"We have seen every side had a run of wins and had a run of loses. One thing I found extremely demanding issue in the IPL has been travel and it seems to be hurting few players," said Hodge.
The Australian batsman pointed out that pitches used in Rajasthan [ Images ] and Kolkata [ Images ] were not up to the mark. He also criticised the two home pitches of KTK.
"The last four wickets we played on -- Kolkata, Rajasthan and two here -- they were sub-standard. They were not up to good-enough level," added Hodge.
Kochi so far, have eight points and are still in contention for a place in next stage but have lost three matches in a row.

Daredevils, Deccan in search of win

Hyderabad, May 5 (IBNS) Both Delhi Daredevils and Deccan Chargers are in search of much needed win when they take on each other in the Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Thursday.

Both Daredevils and Chargers have to win all their remaining matches if they want to make the knock-out phase.

Delhi will once again hope that skipper Virender Sehwag leads from the front as they have their backs to the wall.

While the batting depends heavily on Sehwag and David Warner, who has 254 runs from nine matches, the bowlers haven't come good either.

Although Morne Morkel - 11 wickets - and Irfan Pathan - six wickets - have fired in patches, the consistency is definitely missing.

Deccan aren't any better off. The Kumar Sangakkara-led team has failed to click as a unit.

Dale Steyn has been their best bowler picking up 10 wickets from eight games, but Ishant Sharm has failed to pick up wickets regularly.

Meanwhile in Kochi, second placed Kolkata Knight Riders would like to take step towards the knock-out stage when they take on Kochi Tuskers.

The Knights are on a high with 12 points and three consecutive wins.

“No doubt we are on a bit of a roll these days,” said a smiling Dav Whatmore, the Knights’ coach. “But this hardly makes any difference. We are just looking forward is to play good cricket,” he added.

Tuskers have eight points and are still in line for a place in next stage. They have some highly talented players, the depth in Knights’ batting and bowling is the biggest advantage for the visiting side.
